Don’t you remember?
—Mark 8:18
In every age, God’s people have been afflicted with poor memory.
The Israelites quickly forgot God’s miraculous deliverance from slavery and went into whine mode: bitter water, bad food. When Moses took a forty-day hiatus to meet with God, they forgot his heroic leadership and opted for a calf made of earrings.
Jesus’ disciples were in awe of his miracles—which they promptly forgot when troubles ambushed them.
And, it seems, they passed that virus on to us.
Here’s something I’m going to do, and I invite you to join me. Take a mental trip into your past:
Write down three of the happiest happenings in your life.
Write down three times when things looked bad but turned out okay.
Now, “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever” (Ps 118:1).
Don’t let spiritual amnesia
advance to spiritual Alzheimer’s.
