I have learned the secret of being content.
—Philippians 4:12
“I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances,” Paul wrote (Phil 4:11).
If you cannot say “Me too,” it’s because you haven’t fully subscribed to Paul’s secret. “I have learned the secret,” he said, “of being content in any and every situation” (Phil 4:12).
That secret has nothing to do with possessions, for he said he was content with a lot or a little.
So what’s the secret?
Paul lets us in on it in the next verse: “Christ gives me the strength to face anything” (Phil 4:13). He had learned that with Jesus in his life, every problem was temporary and bearable.
That’s a secret worth knowing because no matter how many things go right, you’ll never find contentment without him. And no matter how many things go wrong, you’ll always find contentment with him.
The world works from the outside in.
Jesus works from the inside out.
