In God I trust; I will not be afraid.
—Psalm 56:4
When Chinese forces surrounded “Chesty” Puller’s Marines at Chosin, he said, “They’re on our left, they’re on our right, they’re in front of us, they’re behind us—they can’t get away this time.”
The king of Aram deployed troops to capture the prophet Elisha. Seeing the vast army surrounding the city, Elisha’s servant wailed, “Oh, my lord, what shall we do?”
“Those who are with us are more than those who are with them,” Elisha said. He prayed, “Lord, open his eyes so he may see.” Then the wide-eyed servant saw the hills covered with the Lord’s horses and chariots of fire. (2 Kgs 6:13–17)
Sometimes it seems that you’re surrounded, problems coming at you from every direction. Open wide your eyes of faith: “The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid” (Ps 118:6).
Serenity doesn’t come from being in control,
but from trusting the One Who is.
