Weeping may tarry for the night,
but joy comes with the morning.
—Psalm 30:5
It seemed like the Walkers were getting a lifetime of trouble all in one year. Cheryl Walker said, “I think God wants us to never forget in the light what we’re learning in this darkness.”
Paul would say “Amen” to that. In 2 Corinthians 1, he wrote about the troubles he and his companions had faced that nearly crushed them—it had seemed like a death sentence. “But this happened,” he said, “that we might not rely on ourselves but on God.”
My parents navigated hard days in the darkness of the depression that equipped them to live thankful lives in the days of light that followed. They learned, as did Paul, to “place [their] hope in God alone.” It was a lesson learned in the dark that they never forgot in the light.
When it seems the darkness will never end
remember that the sun always comes up.
