Be persistent in prayer.
—Colossians 4:2
British author G.K. Chesterton wrote: “You say grace before meals. All right. But I say grace before the play and the opera, and grace before the concert and pantomime, and grace before I open a book, and grace before sketching, painting, swimming; and grace before I dip the pen in the ink.”
While writing one of these devotionals, I realized that I was uncertain of the accuracy of some of the material. Having a friend who was well-versed on the subject, I scribbled in the margin, “Run this by Ryan.”
Chesterton’s comment reminds me that “before I dip the pen in the ink,” I need to, “Run this by God.”
“Pray about everything,” Paul wrote (Phil 4:6). So today, in all you say or do, run it by God before you say it or do it.
Talking to God about it before you say
it or do it will prevent many mistakes.
