Where your treasure is,
there your heart will be also.
—Matthew 6:21
British journalist Malcolm Muggeridge said, “I have never met a rich man who was happy, nor have I have met a poor man who did not want to become a rich man.”
Most of us know that money can’t make us happy—but we would like to have more of it. We may feel kinship with Tevye, in Fiddler on the Roof, when he sang, “I realize, of course, that it’s no shame to be poor. But it’s no great honor either!”
I, unlike Muggeridge, have known some rich people who were happy. But they viewed their wealth as stewardship, not ownership.
Let’s remain aware of the reality that “we came into this world with nothing, and nothing is going with us on the way out” (1 Tm 6:7).
How you spend your money
proves your priorities.
