Be quick to listen, slow to speak.
—James 1:19
Frank posted this note on his media site: “I would say more here if it weren’t for this voice that tells me not to. If you’re a Christian, you probably think that voice is the Holy Spirit. It’s not. It’s my wife, Helen.”
Smart lady, Helen. In tune with the Word.
Here are a couple of inspired nudges from Proverbs . . .
“A gentle answer turns away wrath, but harsh words stir up anger” (15:1).
“Those who are careful about what they say keep themselves out of trouble” (21:23).
And a couple from your New Testament . . .
“Do not use harmful words, but only helpful words” (Eph 4:29).
“If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue . . . your religion is worthless” (Jas 1:26).
Don’t mistake freedom of speech
with the right to offend.
