Let us keep in step with the Spirit.
—Galatians 5:25
“Live by the Spirit,” wrote Paul, “and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other” (Gal 5:16–17).
The apostle proceeded to pinpoint fifteen destructive deeds of the sinful nature: “sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies” (Gal 5:19–21).
Lots of bad boys in that list.
But he didn’t leave us hanging—he gave us nine constructive attitudes and actions to remedy those wrongs: “the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (Gal 5:22–23).
Become a little better each day,
and one day you’ll be a lot better.
