There is a remnant chosen by grace.
—Romans 11:5
Jesus told his apostles, “I have chosen you out of the world” (Jn 15:19).
When two men were put forward as prospects to fill the vacancy left by Judas, Luke used the same verb (eklegomai): the disciples prayed, “Lord . . . Show us which of these two you have chosen” (Acts 1:24).
The same word noted Paul’s election: “This man is my chosen instrument to carry my name before the Gentiles” (Acts 9:15).
None of these were appointed by a human, a committee, or a church—they were chosen by the Lord.
Add your name to that favored list, for the same word is used of you—you were chosen by him before the creation of the world (Eph 1:4, 11). You are “chosen by God and precious to him” (1 Pt 2:4).
God chose you before you chose God.
