You shall name him Jesus.
—Matthew 1:21
Parents-to-be give serious thought to the name of their baby-to-be. The baby’s name isn’t a trivial tag. It establishes an identity that will follow the child from the cradle to the grave—and beyond.
Mary and Joseph weren’t asked what their baby’s name would be—they were told: “You shall name him Jesus (meaning ‘Savior’), for he will save his people from their sins” (Mt 1:21).
His name declared his mind and his mission: it committed him to something incredibly big—“He will save his people from their sins.”
Not, he hopes to. Not, he will try to. He will!
There is no other Savior. Not goodness. Not works. Not rules, regulations, or rituals. Your salvation is entirely dependent on the one-and-only heaven-sent Savior. His name is Jesus.
Salvation: No one is rich enough to buy it. And no one
is too poor to own it. It’s not for sale. It’s a gift.
