He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him I will trust.
—Psalm 91:2
Do you talk to yourself? Me too. When I’m writing these devotionals, I often think out loud. Sometimes when I’m dressing, I talk to myself about which shirt goes with which pants. Sometimes someone says something that rubs me the wrong way. Later, when I’m alone, I come up with some snappy (snippy?) comeback—too late to spout, which is fortunate.
Here are a few phrases from Psalms that enrich my day when I say them out loud:
“Be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord” (27:14).
“This is the day the Lord has made; [I will] rejoice and be glad in it” (118:24).
“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good” (118:1).
“May your unfailing love be my comfort” (119:76).
A new day offers a new beginning.
