Many of his disciples turned back
and no longer followed him.
—John 6:66
Jesus had some fair-weather followers who were gung ho for his healing and feeding, but not for his teaching. His miracles enthralled them, but his words galled them.
What he offered they would not accept; what they wanted he would not give.
He didn’t measure up to their expectations, so they walked away: “From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.”
Turning to the twelve (and to us?) he asked, “Do you also want to go away?”
There’s a fork in the road where you decide to walk with Jesus or walk away from him. The right road is marked, “Follow Me.”
Salvation is free, but discipleship
will cost all you have.
