Please excuse me.
—Luke 14:18
We’ve been invited to a banquet—not just any banquet, but “the feast in the kingdom of God” (Lk 13:29; Rv 19:9). We’ve sent our RSVP saying we’ll be there.
Will we?
Someone said: “Blessed is the man who will eat at the feast in the kingdom of God” (Lk 14:15), prompting Jesus to spin a parable about a man who planned a banquet, drew up a guest list, and mailed the invitations.
When the table was set, he sent word to those who had responded: “Come. Everything is ready.” But some who had agreed to come begged off: one had property to tend to; another had a business to run; another was on his honeymoon (Lk 14:16–20)
We’ve said “Yes” to the Lord’s invitation. Will we give other interests—possessions, professions, or people—priority?
