You are worth more than many sparrows.
—Luke 12:7
Looking out my window on an uncommonly cold morning, I watched a sparrow waging a wing-flapping war with the wind.
Life isn’t a continuous succession of fair weather days. You know that. It has its cold days and seasons of havoc. But God’s concern is constant: “a shelter from the storm” (Is 25:4).
God’s incomparable concern so often slips past us unnoticed. As I stood at my window, watching that little bird, I had an “awe” moment: God was aware of—and cared about—the battle that tiny creature was fighting.
“Five sparrows are sold for only two pennies,” Jesus said, “and God does not forget any of them.” “You,” he added, “are worth much more than many sparrows” (Lk. 12:6, 7). He is concerned about you every minute of every day.
When God says, “Never will I forsake you,”
never means never.
