He calls his own sheep by name.
—John 10:3
“Flashing a thumbs-up, Jenn said, “My professor remembered my name.”
Jenn’s happy reaction sent me scouring my shelves for my old copy of Dale Carnegie’s How to Win Friends and Influence People. Surfing its pages, I found the line I vaguely recalled: “Remember that a person’s name is to that person, the sweetest and most important sound in any language.”
I also came across this Carnegie comment: “You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you.”
Jesus’ interest in you is without equal. John 10 depicts him as “the good shepherd” who knows your name (v. 3), knows your traits and special needs (v. 14), and gave his life to protect and save you (vv. 11, 15).
Jesus knows your name,
your nature, and your need.
