The Lord will hold me close.
—Psalm 27:10
Erich Segal’s Love Story is about Ollie and Jenny, whose life together was cut short when Jenny was diagnosed with leukemia at age twenty-four.
On her deathbed, she asked, “Would you do me a favor, Ollie? Would you please hold me very tight?” He put his hand on her arm and gave a little squeeze.
“No, Oliver,” she said, “really hold me. Next to me.” He got onto the bed with her and put his arms around her.
“Thanks, Ollie.”
Those were her last words.
In trying times we want assurance that we’re not alone. And we’re not, because God has said, “‘I will never leave you . . .’ So we can say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid’” (Heb 13:5–6).
Be grateful for aging;
it’s a gift not everyone gets.
