Don’t be alarmed.
—Matthew 24:6
Jesus warned his disciples that disheartening times would come: wars and rumors of wars, famines, earthquakes, deceivers, false prophets. “But don’t be alarmed,” he said.
He didn’t want his followers to be caught up in the panic that grips unbelievers. Sometimes it seems that evil is winning, but it isn’t. God is sovereign: his plan and purpose will ultimately prevail.
In times like these, it’s difficult not to be discouraged. But as Paul Harvey once said, “It’s good in times like these to remember that there have always been times like these.” It’s also good in times like these to remember that times will not always be like these.
God isn’t unaware of what’s happening.
Don’t be unaware that he has ultimate control.
