Let’s take a break and get a little rest.
—Mark 6:3
Tommy Manning, a former member of the U.S. Mountain Running Team, advises athletes and exercise buffs to schedule rest days. “Rest is essential to recovery from rigorous training,” he says.
When a team has clinched a playoff position, a smart coach gives them a day off, and keeps his star players on the bench, giving their bodies a chance to rest and recover from countdown days of pushing to the limit.
God designated one day out of seven to be a day of rest.
On a day when Jesus’ disciples were so busy “that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, ‘Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest’” (Mk 6:31).
Even in church activities, too much of a good thing can be too much of a good thing.
Resting is not quitting. It’s the
starting point for better work.
