Be careful that you do not forget the Lord.
—Deuteronomy 8:11
Alzheimer’s! Scary word. We all know someone who has it. We have seen its devastation. A memory lapse triggers a haunting feeling that we may be headed for the twilight zone of the dreaded “A.”
A sadder and far more prevalent affliction than Alzheimer’s is willful forgetfulness—disregard of past blessings. It’s a condition brought on by ingratitude. Its major symptom is whining about present problems while overlooking a favor-filled past.
The words of that grand old hymn are worth reflection: Count your many blessings, name them one by one; Count your blessings, see what God hath done.
If you ask “Why me?” when times are bad,
you should also ask “Why me?” when times are good.
