A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
—Ecclesiastes 4:12
“Two are better than one,” wrote Solomon. “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken” (Eccl 4:9, 12).
In Old Testament days, combat was mostly hand-to-hand, so soldiers went into battle with a trusted partner. The two stood back-to-back, ready to take on an enemy coming from any direction.
A cord of three strands may mean that when two stick together, they can do the work of three.
Or it may mean that the Lord joins the twosome: “Where two or three come together in my name, there I am with them” (Mt 18:20).
The support of a friend and a Savior provides peak protection.
It doesn’t take a village. If you have a friend
and a Savior you have all you need.
