I know my sheep and my sheep know me.
—John 10:14
“Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.” These words, written by Anna Warner in 1860, quickly became, and remain, one of the best-known and most-loved songs of the church.
A plaque in a gift store that flipped the words and gave a different perspective caught my eye. Instead of saying,
“Jesus loves me, this I know”
it said,
“Jesus knows me, this I love”
I love knowing that Jesus knows me.
He said, “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me . . . I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand” (Jn 10:14, 27–28).
He knows you and loves you.
Don’t you love knowing that?
