[I]n Christ all will be made alive.
—1 Corinthians 15:22
Trust is tested when the cold winds of sorrow and loneliness blindside you.
The words of the hymn ’Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus were written in the darkest hours of Louisa Stead’s life. Her husband drowned, attempting to rescue a struggling boy.
In the excruciating days of emotional convalescence, the young widow wrote:
’Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to take Him at His word,
Just to rest upon His promise,
Just to know, “Thus saith the Lord.”
Going through a thorny patch? It’s hard, but you’ll get through it.
Trust him. Take him at his word. Rest upon his promise.
Here is his promise: “Because I live, you also will live” (Jn 14:19).
And that life will be forever.
We don’t want to die because we want to live forever.
And that’s exactly what we’re going to do.
