You of little faith.
—Matthew 8:26
Four times in Matthew’s gospel, Jesus chided his disciples for faltering faith.
Thrashed by a savage storm, the disciples were terrified. “You of little faith,” Jesus said, “why are you so afraid?” (Mt 8:24–26).
In Peter’s water-walking flop, fear trumped faith. “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” Jesus asked (Mt 14:25–31).
When the disciples fretted about their lack of vittles—after having recently seen Jesus feed crowds of 5,000 and 4,000—Jesus said, “You of little faith, why are you talking among yourselves about having no bread?” (Mt. 16:5–10).
When the disciples asked Jesus why they were unable to heal a demon-possessed lad, he said, “Because you have so little faith” (Mt. 17:14–20).
Never give him reason to say to you, “You of little faith.”
Birth and death: you start breathing at one end and stop
at the other. What you do in between defines who you are.
