Be still, and know that I am God.
—Psalm 46:10
Life serves a full plate of nonstop demands: places you must be; things you must do; responsibilities you must fulfill. You’re indispensable, right?
Believe it or not, much of your round-the-clock busyness could be put on hold, and the world would still turn. As Charles Wesley said, “God buries his workers, but his work goes on.”
Have you put the Lord on hold, instead of shoving some of your must-dos to the back burner—rationalizing that someday your obligations will diminish and you will turn your focus to God? To paraphrase Augustine’s prayer: “Lord, change me—but not yet!”
If the Lord evaluated your schedule and activities today would you come off like Martha, or like Mary? “Martha, you are worried and upset about many things. Only one thing is important. Mary has chosen the better thing” (Lk 10:41–42 NCV).
The urgent is the worst enemy of the important.
