Look, the Lamb of God,
who takes away the sin of the world!
—John 1:29
Abraham carried the fire. Isaac carried the wood. “Father,” said Isaac, “the fire and wood are here, but where is the lamb?”
For centuries, the question that bewildered believers was, “Where is the lamb?”
Multiplied thousands of animals were sacrificed, but the blood of animals could not permanently take away sin.
Then one day, a man sent from God appeared, proclaiming the coming of Christ. “Look,” he said, pointing to Jesus, “the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”
Three years later, soldiers tramped the Via Dolorosa with spears and swords, mallets and nails, an altar . . . and the Lamb.
Where is the Lamb?
There! Stretched out on that cross-shaped altar—the Lamb being sacrificed for our sins, once for all.
Read the lips of the Lamb:
“This is how much I love you.”
