You are the light of the world.
—Matthew 5:14
When Jesus came into the world, John introduced him as “The light [that] shines in the darkness” (Jn 1:5). Jesus commissioned his disciples to reflect his light: “You are the light of the world,” he said.
Christians not only carry the light . . . they are the light. Those living in darkness judge Christianity, not by the gospel, but by the lives of Christians.
“[P]eople don’t hide a light under a bowl,” Jesus said; “They put it on a lampstand so the light shines . . .” (NCV).
We would do well to revisit the Vacation Bible School days of our youth . . .
This little light of mine,
I’m gonna let it shine . . .
Hide it under a bushel? No!
I’m gonna let it shine.
Shine where God has placed you.
