What is your life? You are a mist that
appears for a little while and then vanishes.
—James 4:14
At the time of this writing, average life expectancy in the United States is 78.4 years.
Visualizing those years on a twelve-hour noon-to-midnight clock, if you are thirty it is 4:37 p.m. If you are thirty-five it is 5:23; fifty it’s 7:41; sixty-five it’s 10:00; seventy-five it’s 11:32.
If there’s something you need to do, now is the time to do it, for every tick of the clock is nudging you closer to midnight.
“Teach us to number our days and recognize how few they are; help us to spend them as we should” (Ps 90:12 TLB).
Today you are the oldest you’ve ever been
—and the youngest you’ll ever be.
