He committed no sin.
—1 Peter 2:22
The Bible says Jesus never sinned, so how could he possibly know what life is like for us? Hebrews 4:15 says he “has been tempted in every way, just as we are.” But how can that be true?
It’s true because he felt the full force of temptation. Think about it. We face temptation and often give up and give in before getting to the end of it. We trip up, fumble the ball and go to the bench bruised, battered, and beat. He, on the other hand, went the distance; played all sixty minutes of the game and never faltered.
He wasn’t a sinner but was treated like one. He took our yielded-to-temptation to the Cross; died for our sins, not his. “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us” (2 Cor 5:21).
He didn’t die because we took a stand,
but because we took a fall.
