Some women were watching from a distance.
—Mark 15:40
A cadre of devoted women was present when Jesus died: “Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome. In Galilee these women had followed him and cared for his needs. Many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem were also there” (Mk 15:40-41).
These women had traveled with Jesus and his disciples and supported them out of their own resources (Lk 8:1-3).
Jesus’ male disciples ran for cover when the chips were down. But not these women; they were the last at the cross on Friday and the first at the tomb on Sunday.
We owe more than we know to brave, loyal, unselfish, sacrificial, generous women.
Women instinctively know what to do and say
to make everything OK when you’re having a bad day.
