Bless those who curse you.
—Luke 6:28
Some of Jesus’ teachings are out of sync with the mindset of our times.
Some of us go to church these days to hear a message that will make us feel good about ourselves. Words like “ought” and “must” and “should” give us the fidgets.
How about this for a sermon text:
“Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you” (Lk 6:27-28).
Preacher alert for the homiletically challenged: it’s a ready-made four-point sermon.
Love your enemies
Do good to those who hate you
Bless those who curse you
Pray for those who mistreat you
Scripture-based, but a sermon that’s not likely to draw a crowd.
Love. Do good. Bless. Pray.
A quartet that produces beautiful harmony.
