Noah did everything just
as God commanded him.
—Genesis 6:22
You won’t turn many pages in your Bible until you hear the voice of God telling you to move in a certain direction; to obey a certain command. And when you hear that voice you have to make a decision.
God told Noah to get to work and build a boat, and Noah had to make a decision—would he or wouldn’t he?
Frederick Buechner says this is when we have to watch Noah’s feet to see which direction they will move. “And finally they move,” he observes, “in the direction of . . . the lumber yard.”
That’s what it finally comes down to when we hear the voice of God . . . which direction will our feet move?
Even the decision not to make
a decision is a decision.
