Faith is being sure of what we hope for.
—Hebrews 11:1
Hedonists take the short view of life: eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die.
Christians take the long view: weighing present decisions on future scales.
Present pleasure may bring pain in the long haul, while present pain may bring pleasure when all is said and done.
What will the future—ten, twenty, thirty years from now—say about the decisions you’re making today?
The sensualist says it makes no sense to forego present pleasure for an uncertain future.
The Christian insists that the future is not at all uncertain. “Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see” (Heb 11:1).
Base what you do today on what
you want your future to look like.
