Jesus . . . for the joy set before
him endured the cross.
—Hebrews 12:2
Your cross is the heaviest piece of furniture in the house, and sometimes you get tired of carrying it; exhausted from struggling with a problem that seems to have no solution and no end.
The writer of Hebrews was writing to people like that; tired travelers who were on the brink of giving up. He counseled them not to do that: keep your eyes focused on Jesus he urged, “so that you will not grow weary and lose heart” (Heb 12:3).
Joy was waiting for Jesus on the other side of the Cross, for there he would sit down at God’s right hand.
When your load is heavy and your path arduous, keep your eyes on the joy waiting for you on the other side of the cross.
Earthly life is short. On the
other side of it is forever.
