Be alert! You do not know
when that time will come.
—Mark 13:33
Jesus is coming again. That is certain.
Nobody knows when. That is equally certain. “You do not know on what day your Lord will come” (Mt. 24:42).
That hasn’t deterred date-setters. There’s a long list of self-declared prophets who claimed to have divined the exact date: J.N. Darby, C.I. Scofield, Charles Russell, Edgar Whisenant, Marilyn Agee, Harold Camping, and Hal Lindsey, to name a few.
In Matthew 24 Jesus said, “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father . . . So you must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”
The fact of his coming is certain; the when of his coming isn’t.
Now and then we wonder when.
One day it will be here and now.
