When the time had fully come,
God sent his Son, born of a woman.
—Galatians 4:4
Only a few were aware of Jesus’ birth—just a cluster of shepherds and a clan of stargazers.
But what a night it was.
It was the night the world had been waiting for since God had vowed that the seed of woman would crush Satan (Gen. 3:15).
And since he had promised Abraham that in his lineage would be one who would bless all nations (Gal. 3:16).
And since Moses had declared that a greater prophet than he would one day come (Dt. 18:15-18).
And since Isaiah had prophesied that “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”—which means, “God with us” (Mt. 1:23).
Look at him! He looks like any other baby. But that baby is God—with blood and bones, eyes and ears, hands and hair.
What a night!
The incarnation is God saying to you,
“This is how much I love you.”
