Righteousness and peace kiss each other.
—Psalm 85:10
Inner peace sometimes seems elusive, and is often pursued by counterproductive conduct.
Some seek peace in escape. The escape of choice may be drugs, alcohol, an affair; even a hobby or work. The pursuit of peace through escape never has a happily-ever-after ending.
Some seek peace in evasion. Attempting to evade problems by refusing to deal with them dead-ends in failure. Problems are like cancer—the longer you evade them the worse they get. You can’t change everything you face, but you can’t change anything until you face it.
Some seek peace in compromise. Peace is never achieved where principle is sacrificed.
The only path to peace is righteousness—doing the right thing, in the right way, for the right reason.
Righteousness comes before peace. Always. Without righteousness there is no peace. Ever.
Righteousness is the key
that unlocks the door to peace.
