Many are the plans in a man’s heart,
but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.
—Proverbs 19:21
Charles Dickens’ novel, A Tale of Two Cities, was about an era that included the French Revolution. Some terribly bad things happened in those days; also some remarkably good things.
The story opens with what is arguably Dickens’ most memorable line: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times …”
That pretty well describes every age.
Headline news tells you a lot of bad things are going on in our streets, schools, statehouses, and homes.
A lot of good things are going on too. They just don’t get the ink and the talking heads; good news doesn’t often sell papers or draw viewers.
But the bottom line is that good ultimately wins. That’s worth remembering.
When all is said and done God calls the shots.
