By faith he still speaks,
even though he is dead.
—Hebrews 11:4
Punch the pause button and stare into space just long enough to name three people who have had a major role in shaping your life.
They may have joined the ranks of the dear departed, but death has not ended your relationship with them.
You carry something of them in you as you soldier on. What they taught you back then continues to guide and shape you now. Don’t let them down by failing to live up to what they modeled.
When they left this world, they left something behind. Part of that something is you. They continue to live and speak through you.
“Death,” said Moffatt, “is never the last word in the life of a righteous man.”
“Plant a tree, Jamie,” said Sir Walter Scott. “It will be growing while you are sleeping.”
Your most valuable inheritance
has come from those who shaped you.
