I have come into the world as a light.
—John 12:46
Isaiah saw people walking in darkness.
So do we. Darkness permeates our world, our towns, the conduct of many who govern, the lives of some we love … and too often our own lives.
But Isaiah saw more than darkness—he saw the coming light: “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light” (Isa. 9:2). And what was that light? “To us a child is born, to us a son is given” (Isa. 9:6).
“The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world” (Jn. 1:9).
And it did.
“I am the light of the world,” said Jesus. “Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (Jn. 8:12).
Follow him and you will never
again walk in darkness.
