He is not here; he has risen.
—Matthew 28:6
Nuclear weapons in the wrong hands give us the jitters.
Internet predators give us the willies.
Shrill voices screeching that global warming is going to leave us with a scorched planet give us the sweats.
Superbugs that thumb their noses at antibiotics give us a feeling that it might be a good idea to shop for a hazmat suit.
But the resurrection tells us that in the long run things will play out just fine; that when all is said and done, bad guys and bad things won’t win; that life, not death is our future.
“I am the resurrection and the life,” Jesus said. “He who believes in me will live, even though he dies.” “Because I live, you also will live,” he promised.
He has risen. All is well.
Your past ends at the cross.
Your future begins at the empty tomb.
