If God is for us, who can be against us?
—Romans 8:31
The battleground where the war between trouble and tranquility is fought isn’t a place, but a person—you.
The enemy’s weapons are daunting: trouble, hardship, persecution, and danger, just to name a few (Rom. 8:35). Jesus doesn’t make light of the forces that assault you—in fact he plainly says that “in this world you will have trouble” (Jn. 16:33).
But he sets the forces of evil that are against you over against the forces of good that are for you, and promises victory through the power of him who loves you. Nothing, nothing at all, can ultimately defeat you …
Not death or life.
Not angels or demons.
Not the present or the future.
Not any power.
Not anything in all creation.
(Rom. 8:37-39)
