You will keep in perfect peace
all who trust in you.
—Isaiah 26:3
After the end of World War I, the League of Nations was created with the aim of maintaining world peace through negotiations, so that war would never again occur.
World War II demonstrated that the League had failed, and it was replaced in 1945 by the United Nations, tasked with maintaining international peace without war—which has also failed.
Nevertheless, the effort to maintain peace is commendable. Do your part: “As far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone” (Rom 12:18).
And there is an inner peace that is yours alone to choose. “My peace I give you,” Jesus said. “I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (Jn 14:27).
May the Lord show you his favor
and give you his peace (Numbers 6:26)
