The wind died down
and it was completely calm.
—Mark 4:39
Miami. Bob Forcum asked if I wanted to go deep-sea fishing. I said, “Sure.” By 10 o’clock the next morning, I had discovered it’s a great sport if you don’t mind being sunburned and seasick. I didn’t feed the fish, but it was a close call.
It gave me new empathy for Jesus’ disciples’ storm-at-sea panic. The furious squall threatened to make this day their last one.
Jesus ended the terrifying ordeal with a command and a question.
The command: “Be still!” he said to the wind. Immediately, all was calm.
The question: “Why are you so afraid? Where is your faith?”
You may be fighting a nightmare storm of your own. But if Jesus is in your boat, take courage and have faith.
Takeaway: 1. The boat won’t sink. 2. The storm won’t last forever.
At the right time, Jesus still stops storms.
