Go and do likewise.
—Luke 10:37
“What must I do to inherit eternal life?” a lawyer asked Jesus.
“What is written in the Law?” Jesus responded.
“Love the Lord your God . . . and love your neighbor as yourself,” replied the counselor.
“You have answered correctly,” Jesus said.
“And who is my neighbor?” he asked.
So, Jesus told the story about the Good Samaritan, revealing three ways we can react to the vulnerable: abuse them, ignore them, or help them.
The robbers in Jesus’ story abused the victim.
The priest and Levite ignored him.
The Samaritan helped him.
“Which of these three do you think was a neighbor?” Jesus asked.
“The one who had mercy on him,” the lawyer replied.
“Go and do likewise,” Jesus said.
Don’t just think about doing good, do it.
