A Certain Future

He is coming with the clouds,
and every eye will see him.
          —Revelation 1:7

  • In 1943, Thomas Watson, chairman of IBM, said he foresaw no world market for computers.
  • The first general-purpose electronic computer, ENAC, weighed over 27 tons. In 1949, Popular Mechanics predicted that one day computers would weigh no more than 1.5 tons.
  • In 1977, Ken Olsen, president of Digital Equipment, said, “There is no reason anyone would want a computer in their home.”
  • In 1981, a well-known computer guru said, “640K memory ought to be enough for anybody.”

You’re probably reading this in your home, on a desktop or laptop weighing less than 3 pounds. If my source is accurate, you’re likely operating with 8GB (gigabytes), which is more than 12 million times 640K (kilobytes).

Humans are poor prophets. But there is one thing about the future that is certain: Jesus is coming again.

We don’t know much.
But we know Jesus will be back.
