[Jesus] bore our sins
in his body on the cross.
—1 Peter 2:24
Cliff Barrows two young children persisted in doing something they had been forbidden to do. They were warned if they did it again, they would be punished. They did it again.
Barrows knew that he had to punish them but was tormented by the thought of spanking them. He just couldn’t do it.
He took off his belt and then his shirt. With bared back, he knelt beside the bed and ordered each child to strap him ten times, as hard as they could. He told them he was going to pay the penalty for their disobedience. They didn’t want to do it and cried shrilly as they delivered the punishment.
“God made [Jesus] who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Cor 5:21),
At a high price, your sins have been paid for.
