Only two times in the gospels is it said that Jesus was amazed.
In Luke chapter 7, a centurion, concerned about his sick servant, sent a request to Jesus to heal him. “I do not deserve to have you come under my roof,” he said. “[Just] say the word, and my servant will be healed.”
“When Jesus heard this, he was amazed” and said, “I have not found such great faith even in Israel.”
In Mark chapter 6, Jesus came home to Nazareth. They’d heard about the miracles he was performing and were amazed at his teaching. But “they took offense” at the hometown boy.
Jesus “was amazed at their lack of faith.”
Faith amazes Jesus, both the presence of it and the absence of it—in people back then and in us in the here and now.
