You Have Been Chosen

He chose us in him.
   —Ephesians 1:4

Before ending his personal ministry on earth, Jesus made provision for its continuance through appointed messengers after his departure. As he was about to ascend to heaven, Luke tells us he was with “the apostles he had chosen” (Acts 1:2).

In the appointment of the apostles, he “chose twelve” (Lk 6:13)).

When two men were proposed to fill the vacancy left by Judas, the believers prayed to the Lord, “Show us which of these two you have chosen” (Acts 1:24).

Later, as Paul was inducted as an apostle, the Lord described him as “my chosen instrument” (Acts 9:15).

Now, rejoice in this: you, too, “he chose . . . before the creation of the world” (Eph 1:4). It is the same Greek word (exelexato) that confirmed the choice of the apostles.

The Lord chose you.
You are special.
