Humans plan their course,
but the Lord establishes their steps.
—Proverbs 16:9
“You can do anything you want to do and be anything you want to be.” If you were fed that line and swallowed it when you were young, you’ve probably suffered bouts of severe indigestion as you’ve grown older.
There are some things you can’t do:
- You can’t make someone love you.
- You can’t force everybody to think the way you do on every subject.
- You can’t have your way in every situation.
- You can’t perform perfectly in every matter every time.
You may not like the fact that you’re not in control, but that’s the way the cookie crumbles.
God alone is in total control: omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent. And he loves you so much that he works—sometimes behind the scenes—to ensure that everything is working out for your ultimate good (Rom 8:28).
God is in control. Sleep well.
