Priorities

Some people, eager for money,
have wandered from the faith.
           —1 Timothy 6:10

Rising prices and falling stock markets give us the jitters. We’ve had it so good for so long that we don’t deal well with discomfort. Materialism sneaks up on us.

Jesus said, “Don’t worry at all about having enough food and clothing . . . your heavenly Father already knows perfectly well that you need them, and he will give them to you if you give him first place in your life” (Mt 6:31–33 TLB). He was telling us to get our priorities straight.

“Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth . . . but to put their hope in God” (1 Tm 6:17).

None are so vulnerable to misplaced priorities as those of us who live where we live and have what we have.

Make an honest evaluation of your priorities.
